Museum for modern realism

Museum MORE brings realistic art to life. With visible reality as its anchor, we explore the boundaries of the real.

Our Museum Locations

Museum MORE has three locations: MORE Gorssel, MORE Ruurlo and, from September 2026, MORE Twickel.

MORE Gorssel

The building of MORE Gorssel was designed by renowned museum architect Hans van Heeswijk. He was also responsible for the renovation and transformation of the Hermitage Amsterdam, the Mauritshuis in The Hague and the new entrance of the Van Gogh Museum.

Van Heeswijk’s design started with the former town hall of Gorssel. The monumental part of the building, dating from 1914, was preserved, while later additions were replaced by new construction. The museum is a pavilion-like, two-storey building with carefully positioned views of the surrounding park landscape.

In addition to the permanent collection display, the museum presents a programme of temporary exhibitions.

MORE Ruurlo

Since June 2017, the second Museum MORE location, MORE Ruurlo, has been open to the public. Located in Kasteel Ruurlo, the museum is dedicated to the life and work of the exceptional painter Carel Willink. This monumental setting provides a fitting backdrop for the work of the master of cool, enigmatic realism.

Having stood for centuries, Kasteel Ruurlo carries a rich history. The castle was first mentioned in 1326, while the current building dates back to the 16th century. Architect Hans van Heeswijk successfully combined contemporary architecture with five centuries of architectural heritage.

At MORE Ruurlo, the life and work of Carel Willink take centre stage. The presentation follows the development of a searching artist who grew into an unparalleled painter. The museum presents two temporary exhibitions each year.

MORE Twickel

MORE Twickel is Museum MORE’s third location and will open in September 2026. This new museum location in Delden, part of Landgoed Twickel, is the result of a close collaboration between Museum MORE and Stichting Twickel.

The masterpieces of Jan Mankes, a favourite among visitors, will have a special place at MORE Twickel. The museum will also present temporary exhibitions that connect with the atmosphere of this remarkable location and the surrounding landscape of Landgoed Twickel.
